Rays Get Dramatic 3-2 Triumph
|
The exploits of shortstop Ozzie Smith, who is tied for 2nd in the AL in triples with 4, helped the Tampa Bay Rays defeat the Philadelphia Phillies, 3-2. Smith went 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Tampa Bay reliever Kid Nichols got the win, raising his record to 5-2. Taylor Jordan was tagged with the loss. The Rays now have a record of 58-28.
The game came to an abrupt end with no one out in the bottom of the 12th. On a pitch from Taylor Jordan, Miguel Tejada hit a sacrifice fly. It gave Tampa Bay the 3-2 win.
"I like the roll we're on," said Tampa Bay manager Josh Callahan.
