Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Red Sox
Tampa Bay first baseman Pablo Sandoval pounded Boston Red Sox pitchers at Tropicana Field, but it was not enough to keep the Rays from falling, 9-5. Sandoval went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. The winner was Boston reliever Glendon Rusch, now 6-11. The loser was Addison Reed. The Red Sox now have a mark of 46-98.

The result might have been different for Boston, had it not been for Dave Chalk. The third baseman produced a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 9-5. For the game, Chalk had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Chalk, "one at-bat at a time."
