Chicago Beaten, 3-1, by Minnesota
|
The Minnesota Twins had to overcome a good performance from Chicago pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. to claim a 3-1 win at U.S. Cellular Field. McCullers Jr. went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. David Herndon snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits over 2.2 innings. He's now 4-7 on the season. Matt Capps locked down his 4th save.
Minnesota used a clutch hit from Mark Teixeira to snatch the win. The designated hitter belted a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Twins ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit, but it was huge.
Teixeira attributed the win to his team's "grittiness."
The Twins now have a record of 56-95.
