Tigers Win Thriller, 4-3
|
The Detroit Tigers had to overcome a fine effort from Minnesota pitcher Charlie Moran to grab a narrow 4-3 win at Hanes Park. Moran went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Detroit reliever Justin Steele was the winner. His record is now 2-4. The losing pitcher was Johnny Klippstein. Their 28-19 record puts the Tigers second in the American League Central.
Chick Hafey was the walk-off hero for Detroit. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Tigers left fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"Glad to get this win," said Hafey. "But we need to keep playing at a high level."
