Granite City Moves on to Round 2

After their 14-2 win today at Dwyer Stadium over the Batavia Muckdogs, the Granite City Twins will advance to the Round 2. Granite City won the series by a 3-0 margin.
Leading the way for the Twins was center fielder Cody Hill, who had a spectacular series and was named MVP.
"I don't play differently in the regular season or playoffs. I just go out and do my best every game," he said. "It's certainly nice to play in the big game, but you can't let it get to your head and change your focus."
The Granite City Twins will play against the Staten Island Yankees in the next round. Staten Island won their series against the Williamsport Crosscutters 3 games to 0. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.

Yankees Move on to Round 2

The Staten Island Yankees have swept the Williamsport Crosscutters and are on to the Round 2. Staten Island won 8-6 today at Bowman Field to clinch the Round 1.
"We're happy to have put the dagger in when we had the chance," said Staten Island shortstop Antonio Figueroa, who was named MVP for the series. "It could have been a tough series to finish if we let them start winning."
Figueroa won the award with a .643 batting average and a .643 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 2 RBI and scored 4 runs.
The Staten Island Yankees don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Batavia Muckdogs - Granite City Twins series. Granite City leads the series 2 games to 0. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.

Ruszkiewicz Tames Muckdogs 8-1, 15 Ks

Granite City Twins starter Kyle Ruszkiewicz brought his best stuff to Vipers Ballpark against the Batavia Muckdogs, striking out 15 batters in his club's 8-1 victory.
In a strong performance, the 22-year-old Ruszkiewicz gave up 4 hits in his 7.2 innings of work and issued no walks.
"I felt good out there," he said after the game. "My fastball had a lot of life and my splitter was sharp. It was giving hitters fits and working well for me."
In 14 starts this season, Ruszkiewicz has fashioned a 7-3 record and a 2.52 ERA.
