The Sacramento Mad Popes picked up a win at The Basilica at Muskrat Slough, knocking off the San Fernando Bears, 5-3. Starting pitcher Joe King was a big reason why. Sacramento reliever Angus Trew was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Bob Butler. With the win, Sacramento goes to 6-1.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, José Montoya was at the plate when Sacramento scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Mad Popes to go in front, 4-3.

"That's what this team is about," said King, "picking each other up."
