The Long Beach Surfers and Chicago Black Sox put on a pitchers' duel.

The Surfers faced a stiff challenge from Chicago pitcher Dirk Bessi, but persevered to claim a win at Vinnie Vitale Stadium. The final score was 2-0. Bessi went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run. The winner in relief was Bill Young. He is now 4-2. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. Owen McKelvey was credited with the save for Long Beach, his 2nd of the season.

A crucial at-bat came with the bases empty and no one out in the top of the sixth inning. That's when center fielder Glenn Fox, who finished 4th in the FL in doubles with 46 in 2055, hit a double. The Surfers went on to win.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Fox.

Long Beach, at 35-35, sits in 5th place in the Frick League Pacific Division.
