Vancouver Mounties starter Gamal bin Badr hurled his team past the Long Beach Surfers, 5-2. After today's action, Vancouver sits at 79-69, while Long Beach falls to 81-67.

Jeffrey Smith had a big 2-run home run for the Mounties in the bottom of the third inning. With Vancouver leading 3-2 and a runner on 1st, he got a sinker from Eddie Armstrong and swatted a home run to left. It was his 3rd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mounties ahead, 5-2.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Vancouver skipper Stafford Carter.
