Hooten Slaps 5 Hits
|
A jubilant Sam Hooten joined the postgame press conference at Fort Wayne Grounds to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Ogden Thunder Ducks pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Port Arthur Pythons left fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led to the 8-3 Pythons win.
"He made it look easy," said Jaak Verhoek, manager of the Thunder Ducks. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Sam Hooten doubled in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 5th and hit an RBI double in the 7th.
Currently Hooten is batting .290 with 47 hits and 6 home runs. He has knocked in 28 runs and scored 25 times.
