Bears Pull Back to .500 With Win Over Surfers
|
The San Fernando Bears got a strong performance from pitcher Fernando Ferretti, who stymied the Long Beach offense en route to a win, 4-2, at Vito Costantino Memorial Stadium. Ferretti went 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2. His record improves to 7-7. The save went to Jim Achbar, his 14th this season.
San Fernando used the timely hitting of Don Moore to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Bears ahead, 4-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Moore.
The 5th-place Bears improved to 57-57.
