Great Effort by Whitten Wasted in 8-6 Pikemen Loss
The Atlantic City Gamblers weathered a fine game by Rockville third baseman Cam Whitten to upend the Pikemen, 8-6, at Owen's Ordinary. Whitten hit 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. Augusto Ayala snagged the win in relief. In 1.1 innings, the right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits. He's now 1-0 on the season. Now 11-14, the Pikemen have not played well this season.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Lee Hogan came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Rockville pitcher Christian Walker, he hit a 2-1 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Atlantic City on top, 7-6.

"Winning is hard sometimes," said Gamblers manager Mike Martínez. "This one was nice to get."
