Lumberjacks Drop Surfers, 5-4
|
The Portland Lumberjacks picked up a win at The Trail in Multnomah, taking down the Long Beach Surfers, 5-4. Starting pitcher John Simons was a big reason why. The winning pitcher was Simons, now 4-9. He tossed 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 5. The Lumberjacks move to 51-80 with the win, while the Surfers drop to 70-61.
With two out in the bottom of the fifth, Alvin Conley barreled up a fastball from Barry Short. The result was a 3-run home run, putting the Lumberjacks in front, 5-1.
"I liked the focus, I liked the effort," said Lumberjacks manager Mons Raider.
