Surfers Heading to Doubleday Series
Monday, October 7th , 2058
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Vito Costantino Memorial Stadium as the Geoghegan Round stretched to the final game.

It was the Long Beach Surfers feeling the thrill of victory, with a 13-1 win over the Vancouver Mounties, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Doubleday Series.

"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Vancouver manager Stafford Carter. "Congratulations to Long Beach, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."

Instrumental in the 3-2 series win was first baseman Terry Cole, who was named MVP. He hit .375 with a .545 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 5 RBI and scored 4 runs.

"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.

The Long Beach Surfers will play against the Nashville Bluebirds in the next round. Nashville had a bye in the Geoghegan Round. The Doubleday Series is scheduled to begin on October 8th , 2058.
