The New York Yankees had to overcome a fine performance from Tampa Bay pitcher Norbert Williamson to grab a 3-2 win at Tropicana Field. Williamson allowed 3 runs over 6 innings. César García earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-1. Norberto Díaz was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 4 of 8 save opportunities.
In the top of the sixth, with New York leading 2-0, right fielder José Martínez hit a solo home run. The hit came off Norbert Williamson and put the Yankees ahead, 3-0.
