Orioles Prevail, 3-1, Over New York
|
Baltimore beat New York in a rain-soaked ballgame.
The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees, 3-1, in American League action at Yankee Stadium. Baltimore pitcher Ken Watson had a standout performance. Watson, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Mike Duncan closed the door for Baltimore, picking up his 1st save of the year.
Baltimore used a well-timed hit by Tim Adams to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Orioles ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said New York skipper Will Dymek, "and it cost us."
The Orioles, now 3-0, have been playing some good baseball.
