Blue Garners CAR Top Skipper Award

The Carolina Mudcats called a press conference to announce that field manager Von Blue had been named Carolina League Manager of the Year earlier in the day. Staffers congratulated the 44-year-old baseball guru as he approached the podium.
"This city has allowed me to craft a winning ball club," said Blue. "When you take on a new job, there's always some adjustment period, but everyone here has been cooperative. From the bat boys on up. Here's to many more successful seasons for the Carolina Mudcats!"
Blue led Carolina to a 76-64 record this year and a second place finish in the Southern Division.

Big Hitters Get Named CAR Platinum Stick Award Winners

The winners of the Carolina League Platinum Stick Award demonstrated "consistent and outstanding offensive excellence," according to a statement made from the office of the Carolina League commissioner.

Givens Named Top Reliever for CAR

The Reliever of the Year goes to the Carolina League reliever who put forward the strongest season.
This season, that player was Ted Givens of the Lynchburg Hillcats, who was above all his peers in 2055.
"I just feel like the ball was doing what I wanted it to this year and I was in command most nights out there," he said. "Some days you don't have your best stuff, but I didn't have too many of those days this year."
On the season, Givens pitched 62.2 innings, with 63 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.30. He also had 3 saves in 50 relief appearances.
He received 4 first place votes out of a possible 8. Dan Watson of the Salem Red Sox finished second in voting with 3 first place votes, while Tim Brown of the Winston-Salem Dash finished third.
