Kamp Belts 3 HRs
Tuesday, September 3rd , 2052
It's a rare event when a player hits three homers in a game and rarer still when he does it and loses.
It happened at Daredevils Ballpark, as Gunnar Kamp of the Nashua Silver Knights unloaded three times against the Superior Daredevils but was still bumped off, 10-9, by the Daredevils.
"We were lucky to win today," said Superior skipper Cody Stanley. "You can't give up that many home runs and expect to win on a regular basis."
For the game, the Nashua first baseman had 3 hits in 6 at-bats, scored 3 times, and drove in 5.
Kamp spoke to the writers in the postgame press room with mixed feelings, saying he was sad to lose but happy to be seeing the ball well.
"I was just trying to swing early and often to give myself a chance," he said. "I let the pitcher supply all the power and try to figure out how to get the bat on the ball."
Gunnar Kamp hit a two-run home run off Steve Long in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Tommy Williams in the 6th, flied out in the 7th, hit a two-run home run off Doug Morgan in the 9th and flied out in the 10th.
This year, Kamp is batting .288 with 24 home runs. He has scored 42 runs and driven in 52.
