2020 Top Five Draft Picks

2020 MLB Draft is here in the GBL! Hundreds of players around the country are sitting around their phones waiting for a phone call that their dream has finally come true. With the First five picks being picked. We decided to look at these future MLB Stars.

OF – Enrique Bradfield – Baltimore Orioles

For two consecutive years, the Orioles have had the number 1 pick after drafting Andrew Vaughn last year. Baltimore took a risk drafting Enrique Bradfield without stats as he sat out last year. Scouts around the league seem to think he will play in the Majors. OSA believes he will be a high average hitter and has the speed to round the bases. In the field, he is projected to have high abilities although there are questions on his arm.

We reached out to the Orioles front office on why they felt he was the best fit for their organization moving forward. GM Gerry Dieterich feels, “[Bradfield] projects to hit for average and power.” He went on to say’ “Defensively he’s sound. Couldn’t pass that up.” The Orioles are excited for him to join their Organization.

3B – Rece Hinds – Cincinnati Reds

The Reds went after third baseman Rece Hinds out of Niceville, FL. This season he hit a slash line of .335/.415/.587 with 10 Home runs (2 Grand Slams), in 40 games. He was selected to represent St Petersburg HS in the MHS4 HS All-Star Game. OSA scouts seem to agree to he’s a solid defender and will be more than able to handle the hot corner. Offensively they believe he will have a high batting average and has tremendous power potential.

The Reds organization thought he was too good to pass up. General Manager Beertolo Colon stated, “my scout says he’s got plus-plus contact potential and elite power potential. His fielding ratings grade out as above average overall, combined together makes it hard to not pick him.” The Reds believe he will be a huge factor in their future.

CF Trejyn Fletcher – Kansas City Royals

Kansas City took High School Centerfielder out of Portland, ME. He impressed the scouts even though he sat out last season. OSA has him making hard contact which projects him to be a home run slugger. He has speed and defensively he has the potential to be a Gold Glove Centerfielder. He will likely be a star in the outfield in Kansas City.

Dave Twibell, Kansas City Royals General Manager commented, “he checked all the boxes.” The Royals stated they needed a Centerfielder and must feel that Fletcher is the guy to fill that role for them in the coming years. The Royals feel he will a big contributor in the big league club in the coming years.

CF – Eric Cox – Seattle Mariners

With the fourth overall pick, the Seattle Mariners took Eric Cox out of North Las Vegas High School. OSA scouts believe his contact will be enough to someday earn him a batting title. He has raw power and bat speed that the mariners will look to refine. Although he is a Center fielder, he can play the infield as well which gives him some versatility.

Mariners GM Brydon Oleson stated, “he has the potential to be a franchise cornerstone, with plus power and contact and a disciplined approach at the plate. Throw in that he plays CF and he just has too much promise to pass up.” The Mariners are excited to see what Cox can do in the coming years.

1B – Brad Witt – San Francisco Giants

The Giants took the first college player in Brad Witt from the Raleigh Crawdads. In his collegiate career, he was selected to 1 All-Star Game and won the SL2 Championship series MVP in 2019. This last season he hit a slash line of .393/.460/.821. OSA scouts agree that he has good potential to be one of the best in the game. He has a lot of power potential and should be an athletic first baseman.

General Manager Scott Roberts expressed his excitement for what he can bring to the organization. He stated that he trusts his scouts and analytics team and that Witt was the highest guy on the board for both of them. The Giants feel confident that he will be a cornerstone to their organization in the coming years.

These are the first five picks of the 2020 GBL draft and we look forward to seeing them in the show in a few years. Best of luck to the players as they begin their professional careers.
