Giants Beat Pirates, 8-6
|
Pittsburgh designated hitter Jeff Turner had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 8-6, to San Francisco at PNC Park. Turner went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win belongs to Joel Ferrante in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Micah Toole took the loss for Pittsburgh. Aarre Öunap, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 39th save.
San Francisco used the bat of Juan Zaragosa to get the win. The designated hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Giants ahead, 3-2. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.
Zaragosa said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
The first-place Giants have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
