Rays Drop Yankees, 6-3, with Late Score
|
The Tampa Bay Rays beat the New York Yankees, 6-3, at Yankee Stadium. The win was due in part to first baseman Luis Silva, who was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Mike Fields finished the game for Tampa Bay and earned his 2nd save. The win puts Tampa Bay at 3-1.
Silva came through with some timely hitting for Tampa Bay. With New York trailing 3-2 in the top of the eighth, Silva hit a full count fastball for a grand slam home run. His 1st home run of the season made it 6-3, Tampa Bay.
Silva told a Tampa Bay Today reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
