Tigers Knock Off Athletics at Sutter Health Park
|
The Detroit Tigers withstood an impressive performance by Sacramento first baseman Anthony Rizzo to defeat the Athletics, 8-5, at Sutter Health Park. Rizzo went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winning pitcher was 26-year old right-handed pitcher Reese Olson. He tossed 96 pitches over 5 innings, allowing 5 runs on 10 hits. By defeating Sacramento, the third-place Tigers improved to 63-81.
One pivotal at-bat came with no one out in the bottom of the seventh. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Sacramento trailing 8-5, Alex Lange needed to bear down against Brett Harris. Lange won the battle, as Harris hit into a double play and the Tigers went on to win.
