Merrill Swats 3 Homers Friday, September 26th , 2025 San Diego Padres center fielder Jackson Merrill put on a dazzling display of power at Petco Park against the Chicago White Sox. In the 10-2 Padres victory, Merrill penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts. "He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Chicago manager Pedro Grifol said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well." Along with his three home runs, the 22-year-old had 3 hits in 5 at-bats, 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored. "Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Merrill said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today." Jackson Merrill hit a two-run home run off Cory Abbott in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off Cory Abbott in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Michael Soroka in the 6th, walked in the 7th and flied out in the 8th. In 142 games this season, Merrill has batted at a .289 pace with 166 hits and 34 home runs. |
