Astros Come Up Short at New York, 5-4
|
The Houston Astros got a sterling performance from catcher Joey Bart, but the New York Yankees still prevailed, 5-4. Bart went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. New York reliever John Howe picked up the win, raising his record to 2-0. Kyle Cody was tagged with the loss. The save went to John O'Day, number 9 for him.
Adam Black, who is on pace to hit 31 home runs this season, helped out the New York cause in the bottom of the fifth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the center fielder drove in one run.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Black told a New York Chronicle reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
The Yankees sport a record of 12-25.
