The Texas Rangers got a sterling performance from designated hitter Mac Watten, but the Oakland Athletics still prevailed, 4-3. Watten went 2-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Jeff Wallace earned the win to go to 4-0. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with no walks and 3 strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. Brody Matthews closed the door for Oakland, picking up his 2nd save of the year.

Oakland right fielder Robert Bannatyne contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball into center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 33rd hit of the season and put the Athletics ahead, 2-1.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Oakland manager Joe Girardi.

The triumph puts Oakland at 21-17 for the season.
