Late Magic Gets West Virginia 4-2 Win
|
The Black Bears grabbed a win, 4-2, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, overcoming a fine effort from Brooklyn pitcher Zach Hicks. Hicks went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. West Virginia is 4th in the Pinckney with a record of 33-36.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Roismar Quintana came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Brooklyn pitcher Yi Lan, he hit a full count fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting West Virginia on top, 4-2.
Brooklyn manager Randy Tomlin said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
