Red Sox Take Down Padres, 5-4
|
The Boston Red Sox overcame a fine performance by San Diego second baseman Jesse Evans to defeat the Padres, 5-4, at Fenway Park. Evans went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. The winner was Javier García in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Graham Mertz took the loss. The first-place Red Sox have won 5 straight.
The most significant at-bat for Boston came with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. Red Sox right fielder Earl James hit a bases-clearing triple to win the game.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," James told the Boston Citizen.
