Giants Score Late to Upend Guardians, 6-4
|
Cleveland center fielder Alek Thomas had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 6-4, to San Francisco at Progressive Field. Thomas was 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. San Francisco reliever John Hawkins picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Craig Parker shouldered the loss. Max Sutter was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 6 save opportunities.
San Francisco used the timely hitting of Taylor Sparks to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Giants on top, 6-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Sparks told a San Francisco Gazette reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
San Francisco now has a record of 53-37 with the win.
