Reds Prevail, 7-5, Over Washington
|
The Cincinnati Reds relied on the hitting of shortstop Micah Mason to stop the Washington Nationals, 7-5. For the game, Mason went 2-4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The winner in relief was Dean Cromwell. The right-hander allowed 3 runs on 4 hits in 2.1 innings. He now owns a record of 4-7. Ben Rowen was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 6 of 8 save opportunities.
Mason had a timely hit for Cincinnati in the bottom of the seventh. With Washington trailing 2-1, he turned a 1-1 fastball into a grand slam home run. It was his 1st home run of the season, making it 5-2, Cincinnati.
"We take it day by day here," said Mason, "and today was a good one for us."
Cincinnati has 5 straight wins, Washington 3 straight losses.
