The Boston Red Sox got a stellar performance from pitcher Michael Torretta, who handcuffed the Washington offense en route to a win, 7-2, at Nationals Park. The third-place Nationals have dropped 5 straight games.

Drew Mendoza, the 25-year old first baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Mendoza contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the seventh inning to put Boston up, 3-1.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Mendoza told the Boston Herald.
