Reds Lose to Blue Jays, 2-1
|
Toronto starter Clayton Kershaw put a stranglehold on the Cincinnati offense. The left-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Blue Jays to a 2-1 win. Bryan Karapetyan, now 2-4, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. The American League East-leading Blue Jays are 76-50.
Toronto took a 2-1 lead on Giancarlo Stanton's 16th home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off Cincinnati pitcher Hideaki Hirata in the bottom of the seventh.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Kershaw said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
