Bowers Lifts Cubs to 7-5 Win
|
The Chicago Cubs topped the Milwaukee Brewers, 7-5, with catcher Brock Bowers playing a big role. Bowers hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 3 for the Cubs in the win. Max Johnson earned the save for Chicago, his 27th of the year. Chicago, at 58-69, occupies last place in the National League Central.
Had Brennen Davis not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Davis hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Cubs.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Davis. "And not try to do too much."
