Boston and Texas played a hard-fought contest.

The Texas Rangers got a superb performance from pitcher Jamie Widner. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Boston. The Red Sox won the game, 3-1. Widner threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Boston now owns a record of 68-85.

Late-game drama came in the top of the ninth inning. With no one out and the bases empty, the batter, Dave Allen, hit a double. It helped Boston seize the win.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Allen said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
