The Portland Sea Dogs withstood an impressive performance by Richmond third baseman Francis Cummins to defeat the Flying Squirrels, 8-5, at Hadlock Field. Cummins went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Portland reliever Esteban Márquez was the winner. His record is now 1-3. The losing pitcher was Paul Turner. P.J. Desjardien, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 13th save.

Mike Martens, who is tied for 3rd in the EL in triples with 4, aided the Portland cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the second baseman was 1-4.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Martens told the Portland Chronicle.

With the win, Portland has a record of 25-26. Richmond falls to 26-25.
