Wichita Wind Surge starter Dane Acker was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Nashville Sounds, 5-3. Acker went 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8. His record improves to 1-0. Gerald Montgomery was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.

The Sounds had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Wind Surge going into the bottom of the third inning. That changed quickly when the 28-year old left fielder Pete Beard came to the plate. Beard hit a 2-run home run on a 2-2 curveball from Nashville hurler Eric Pardinho. It was Beard's 1st home run of the year.

The win puts Wichita at 1-1.
