Flying Squirrels Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Thunder, 7-4
|
The Richmond Flying Squirrels beat the Trenton Thunder, 7-4, at Mercer County Waterfront Park. Isaiah Fisher-Smith, in particular, was impressive. He was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Richmond reliever Tony Graham picked up the win, upping his record to 6-1. Jakob Brustoski took the loss. Rafael Pérez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 15 of 16 save opportunities.
Fisher-Smith had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 2-2 fastball from Jakob Brustoski, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Flying Squirrels a 6-4 lead. It was the 7th home run of the year for Fisher-Smith.
"I still think this team can play even better," Fisher-Smith told the Richmond Chronicle.
With the win, Richmond pushed its record to 48-39.
