Flying Squirrels Trip Fightin Phils, 3-1, in Extra Innings
|
The Richmond Flying Squirrels had to overcome a good performance from Reading pitcher J.J. McCarthy to claim a 3-1 win at FirstEnergy Stadium. McCarthy went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. The winner in relief was Max Sutter. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. The triumph puts Richmond at 62-44 for the season.
Richmond used the timely hitting of Francis Cummins to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Flying Squirrels on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I like our moxie," said Flying Squirrels manager Clayton McCullough.
