RubberDucks Beat Portland, 4-3
|
The Portland Sea Dogs got a sterling performance from pitcher Garrett Beck, but the Akron RubberDucks still prevailed, 4-3. Beck threw 5.2 innings of 4-hit ball. Parker Kelly earned his 12th save in 13 chances. The Sea Dogs, at 52-65, have lost 4 straight games.
Akron used the clutch hitting of Nick Gonzales to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to give the RubberDucks the lead, 4-3. For the game, Gonzales had 2 singles and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Portland manager Dusty Wathan.
