Vic Shields did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Akron RubberDucks from losing, 8-7, to the Reading Fightin Phils at Canal Park. Shields went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Elijah Manning earned the save for Reading, his 9th of the year. With the victory, the Fightin Phils record now stands at 68-54.

Reading used the clutch hitting of Andrew Ebbs to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Fightin Phils the lead, 8-7. For the game, Ebbs had 1 single and 1 double in 5 at-bats.

"We maximized our offense today," said Reading skipper Nestor Rojas. "That makes everyone's life easier."
