RubberDucks Squelch Fightin Phils Offense in Shutout Win
|
The Akron RubberDucks got a stellar performance from pitcher Josh Irvin, who handcuffed the Reading offense en route to a win, 5-0, at Canal Park. In 6 innings, Irvin surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 0. He allowed no runs. Dan Hooper earned the save, his 2nd, for the RubberDucks.
With two out in the bottom of the second, Joshua Mears barreled up a fastball from Karl Kauffmann. The result was a 3-run home run, putting the RubberDucks in front, 5-0.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Akron manager Yoshitsune Koizumi. "Our pregame was pretty good."
The win puts the RubberDucks at 60-63, while the Fightin Phils drop to 68-55.
