The Boston Red Sox topped the Oakland Athletics, 2-1, in American League action at Oakland Coliseum. The standout performance belonged to Boston pitcher and Fremont, California, native John Larson. The win puts Boston at 4-1.

Boston used a clutch hit from Dave Allen to get the win. The shortstop drilled a solo home run in the top of the 15th inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 7 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Oakland manager Joe Girardi said following the tough loss.
