The Los Angeles Angels had to overcome a fine performance from Tampa Bay pitcher Dane Grier to grab a 3-2 win at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Grier allowed 1 run over 7.1 innings. The win belongs to Takaaki Ichikawa in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Josiah Gray took the loss for Tampa Bay. The win brings the Angels to 7-3, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
Had Jordan Akins not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Akins hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Angels.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Los Angeles manager Darin Erstad.
