Nationals Best Athletics in Pitching Duel
|
The Washington Nationals eked out a 1-0 win versus the Oakland Athletics at Oakland Coliseum. Nobody did more than pitcher Jackson Kowar. He was terrific. Washington reliever Jake Irvin picked up the win to move to 1-0. Manuel Reyes suffered the loss. Donald Austin closed the door for Washington, picking up his 5th save of the year.
Washington used a timely hit from Victor Robles to get the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Nationals ahead, 1-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"Winning never gets dull," said Kowar.
The Nationals are off to a tough start, getting just their 6th win in 15 games.
