Tigers Turn Back Rangers, 3-2

The Detroit Tigers topped the Texas Rangers by a score of 3-2. Leading the way was left fielder Jake Venables. Venables went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Tigers. Rusty Demmitt earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings. He upped his record to 2-2. Brandon Tewksbury closed the door for Detroit, picking up his 6th save of the year.
Detroit grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Venables, who is tied for 10th in the AL with a .333 batting average, hit a solo home run. His 4th home run of the season put the Tigers out in front, 3-2.
"It was a solid team effort," said Venables after the game.
The win puts Detroit at 11-7.
