Blue Jays Edge Yankees, 7-6
|
The New York Yankees got a superb performance from third baseman Michael Pearl. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Toronto. The Blue Jays won the game, 7-6. Pearl went 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. The winner in relief was Corbin Martin. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. He now owns a record of 1-1. Pasqualino Carosi earned the save for Toronto, his 7th of the year.
Austin Hendrick, who is the top prospect in the Blue Jays organization, chipped in for Toronto with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the right fielder had 3 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 2 singles, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
In postgame comments to the Toronto Daily, Hendrick said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Yankees, at 4-15, have stumbled out of the gate.
