Flying Squirrels Topple Senators, 7-1
|
Francis Cummins was instrumental in his team's 7-1 triumph over the Harrisburg Senators. The third baseman was 2-2 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs for the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Picking up the win was Steve Frer. He went 6.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits. The right--hander struck out 6 and walked 2. Will Bednar earned the save for Richmond, his 1st of the year.
The Flying Squirrels got an important contribution from designated hitter Ryan Hughes, who in the bottom of the third punched a 1-0 fastball into right-center for a solo home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Flying Squirrels ahead, 2-0.
"I thought we played a nice game," Cummins told the Richmond Chronicle. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
Harrisburg drops to 5-10.
