Late Magic Gets Boston 3-1 Win
|
The Boston Red Sox took Cleveland pitcher Shawn Stephens's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Fenway Park. The final score had Boston getting past the Guardians, 3-1. Stephens went 6 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 6. Alex Ramirez earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 1-1. The Guardians fall to 9-11 and continue their uneven start to the 2024 season.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Kenny Gentry came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Cleveland pitcher Dustin Lane, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Boston on top, 2-1.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Gentry said.
