5 Straight Wins for Astros
|
The Chicago Cubs got a superb performance from pitcher Evan Smith, but the Houston Astros still won the game, 4-2. Smith threw 5.0 innings of 3-hit ball. The winner was Houston reliever Josh Norbe, now 1-0. The loser was Drew Nembhard. Mark López closed the door for Houston, picking up his 5th save of the year.
Houston needed the clutch hitting of Ron Winterhalder to notch the win. The catcher hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Astros on top, 3-2. For the game, Winterhalder had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Everyone's kind of edgy right now," said losing manager Derrek Lee, "but nothing a couple of wins wouldn't cure."
The Astros, now 17-7, have played inspired baseball.
