Martínez Tags Rock Cats for 5 Hits Sunday, July 25th, 2021 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Francisco Martínez, it came around today. The 24-year-old second baseman scattered hits all over FirstEnergy Stadium to pace the Reading Fightin Phils to a 16-7 victory over the New Britain Rock Cats. New Britain skipper Ron Wotus told reporters in the press room that "Martínez deserves a hat-tip." "He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Martínez hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit." Francisco Martínez singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th. This season Martínez is batting .307 with 47 hits and 2 home runs.
