Orioles Best Pirates, 4-1
|
The Baltimore Orioles beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-1, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Starting pitcher Dan Blakely was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Blakely, the winner, moves to 7-17. He threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 4 walks. The win puts the Orioles at 64-91, while the Pirates drop to 70-86.
In the top of the seventh, Mike Lombardi stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Pirates were trailing 4-1, but had the bases loaded. That's when Juan Olmos made a terrific pitch and Lombardi grounded out. Gone was the dream of a Pittsburgh comeback.
