Reds Even With Yankees After Extra-Innings Win
|
The Cincinnati Reds and the New York Yankees will take the Wild Card to a decisive final game. Facing a must-win situation at Yankee Stadium today, the Reds went into extra innings to beat the hometown Yankees 8-1 and knot the series at 1-1. Cincinnati left-hander Wolfgang Severin threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball.
Cincinnati used the timely hitting of Esteban Peralta to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Reds on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Our team showed some spunk," said Peralta.
Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
